Tips to Keep Your Home Clean

By September 23, 2019 No Comments

Maintaining the cleanliness of your home before it gets too cluttered is a key habit that can save you a lot of time, energy, and unnecessary stress. Cleaning as you go, focusing on areas that get chaotic the quickest and easiest, and staying on top of each task will really keep you from feeling overwhelmed. Most people tend to wait too long, letting the clutter and dust build up to a level of defeat, making it difficult for you to determine where to even begin.

With these tips, you can keep your home in order between visits from Obsessive Cleaning!

Keep Your Sink Free of Dishes

Washing and putting away your dishes as soon as you finish using them will help maintain the cleanliness of your entire kitchen. Leaving dishes overnight can cause odors, may attract pests, and can be a breeding ground for bacteria and mold.

Having a cluttered kitchen and sink can also subconsciously curb you from wanting to use your kitchen and prepare any meals, possibly contributing to an unhealthy diet.

Cleaning your dishes as you go will help keep your counters free, and your sink empty for use the next day.

Vacuum Floors

Whether you decide to sweep or vacuum, it will force you to remove any clutter that is sitting on your floor. Be sure to put everything where it belongs, rather than just removing it from plain sight as this will help keep things clean from the start.

Vacuuming and sweeping will get rid of crumbs, hair, dust, and all that lingers on your ground. Be sure to reach under tables, cabinets, furniture and get to as much surface area as possible to ensure you’re making the most out of your time.

Keep Up With Laundry

Some people suggest doing a load of laundry a day, but you may not need to. Delegate a certain amount of time to complete an entire load of laundry as often as you need it done. That includes loading the washer, drying your clothing and putting it away.

Many times, people do laundry and let it sit in a basket for weeks, causing them to sort through the basket rather than their closet every time they need clean clothing. Make it a habit to put your laundry away as soon as it is complete. You can load your washer and wait until you return from work to turn it on to ensure you’ll be there to dry and put it away.

Schedule a 30-Minute Nightly Clean Up

Despite how busy and hectic life can get, maintaining the cleanliness of your home will reduce your stress levels and help keep you at ease. At the end of the day, after returning from work and having dinner, set a timer for 30 minutes and do as much decluttering and cleaning as you can. Involve the entire family so that everyone is taking part, and after the timer goes off, be sure to stop cleaning.

The point of this routine exercise is to simply keep up with your day to day life, and to make your time deep cleaning the house easier. This will help you sleep knowing your dishes are put away, your floors are clear and your home is one step cleaner than it was.

Research shows that a cluttered home can be distracting, causing you to be less productive and increasing your stress levels. Cleaning as you go and maintaining the organization and sanitation of your surroundings will decrease your workload when you deep clean your home and leave you feeling fresh and motivated!
